Travel back in time with Kamut grain, and ancient variety of wheat that was only recently rediscovered by modern-day farmers. Whole grain Kamut berries are a nutritious source of protein iron and fiber, and a tasty addition to stews and salads.

This history of this ancient wheat grain is a bit mysterious. Some say that Noah brought Kamut kernels along on the ark, hence the nickname "Prophet's Wheat." Others call Kamut grain "King Tut's Wheat," claiming it was found in the tomb of an Egyptian pharaoh. Though its origins are debated, there's no arguing the fact that Kamut wheat is healthy and delicious. The firm texture and rich, nutty flavor make this heirloom grain a great addition to pilafs, soups, and cold salads.

Suggested Use

Basic Cooking Instructions

For best results, soak 1 cup Kamut berries in water overnight, then drain. Bring 3 cups water or stock to a boil in a pot with a tight-fitting lid. Add Kamut grains. Cover, reduce heat to low and simmer for 30-40 minutes. (45-60 minutes if grains were not soaked). Drain off any excess liquid.

Makes 4 servings (about 3 cups).

Took me by surprise!

This ancient grain really took me by surprise! It tastes and looks like today's modern day grits when grounded and cooked, but it is way more nutritious! The consistency reminds me of when a person puts cheese in grits, but of course it does not taste like cheese is in it. It actually tastes richer, better than today's grits. Also great in granola! It's a keeper!

Kamut Grain

Hay...I'm new at this and thought I was ordering something that could be substituted for flour. I received whole Karmut grain. Can I use my Kitchenaid Food processor to convert the grain into flour? Karmut porridge doesn't sound very appealing....I don't even like Grits.
