Himalayan Pink Salt is pure, hand-mined salt found deep inside the pristine Himalayan Mountains. The high mineral content of Himalayan salt crystals contributes to their color, ranging from deep reds to beautiful pinks. The fine grind Himalayan is sized perfectly for direct use in cooking. Try adorning tender white meats such as lean pork, chicken or turkey with the mineral rich flavor of this gorgeous salt.

This salt does not supply iodide, a necessary nutrient.

Suggested Use

This Jurassic era sea salt is known for its healing properties and is used by health professionals, spas and individuals who are interested in utilizing natural products to heal the body and relax the mind. The Himalayan pink salt can be used either during cooking or as a finishing salt. Delicious when used with chicken, red meat, fish, brines, and sauces.

Best salt for health

I switched to pink salt because it's healthier than table salt. Table salt is stripped of all the natural minerals, baked and then iodine is added back to prevent deficiencies along with an anti-caking agent like calcium silicate to make it flow smoother. The pink is mined, washed then delivered in large crystals for grinding in a salt grinder. This pink salt not only has all the original minerals from the earth, it does contain iodine! While a lack of iodine can cause some serious health problems like hypothyroidism (sluggish thyroid so tired), if your diet also consists of iodine rich foods like fish, seafood, meat, dairy, or eggs, then there's no worries about getting enough iodine. The other thing to consider about iodine is where your food comes from. Back when we only ate local foods, iodine deficiency was mostly a problem around the Midwest and the Great Lakes regions. Iodine is found in the soil near the oceans, so farm animals raised in those regions would have more iodine naturally (and their eggs, too!). Iodine deficiencies are rare in other countries like Japan as they eat more fish, seafood and seaweed than the North American diet. The reason this pink salt has iodine is that it's mined from an area that was an ancient seabed over 250 million years ago. So, this pink salt from Frontier Naturals consists of 95–98% sodium chloride, 2–4% polyhalite (potassium, calcium, magnesium, sulfur, oxygen, hydrogen), 0.01% fluoride, 0.01% iodine, and micro-amounts of numerous trace minerals. Tests have shown over 80+ trace minerals. The trace mineral, iron oxide, gives this salt it's pink color. The iron is not a concern as there's very little in pink salt, 2 teaspoons of pink salt has roughly the amount of iron in it as one slice of whole wheat bread. Well, I've been using the pink salt for over 20 years, avoid table salt, cook from scratch with the occasional restaurant meal and my health hasn't been affected. I think a lot of these health scare statements need to be “taken with a grain of salt” (i.e. less seriously). I'd rather buy something as nature intended it instead of over-processed table salt. Plus it looks cool on the counter in my Peugeot clear salt grinder!
