Cholesterol is a waxy, fat-like substance necessary for certain body functions, but too much can increase the risk of heart disease. The liver produces up to 80% of the cholesterol found in the body. The daily diet is another source of cholesterol.
How much is good or bad?
Total cholesterol in the blood should be less than 200 mg/dl. 200-239 is borderline. 240 and above is high. There are two types of cholesterol:
