no problems in the gut as with normal vitamin C

Good product, although expensive, reasonably priced no problems in the gut as with normal vitamin C, but the magnesium stearate is an unwelcome additive, therefore only four stars

Fat Soluble is Not the Whole Story

Posted by 5581477764951898852 on Dec 04, 2016 | Verified Purchase

I originally gave this a 5-star review, and recently have changed downward. We did a lot of research on vitamin C, along with D3 and ubiquinol (the basic result of Co Q10). Ascorbyl Palmitate is a fat-soluble form of vitamin C made by combining regular ascorbic acid with palmitate. The research seems to show that this version ".....stays with the system a lot longer, and also is captured by the cell membranes. This capturing isn't available in water-soluble vitamin C." Okay, and all this actually is true. BUT!....there's more to the story, and I finally tracked down the research, which I think comes out of the Linus Pauling Institute (not totally sure). It turns out that yes, fat-soluble C does get captured by cell membranes but ONLY when administered intravenously. Regular ascorbic acid (standard vitamin C) works just as well, whether natural or synthesized. When taken orally, vitamin C is only fractionally bio-available in comparison with injection. Therefore, at the significantly higher price, we're not getting anything extra. Ascorbyl Palmitate breaks apart when it hits the digestive tract, splitting into regular, water-soluble ascorbic acid, and then the palmitate. We're switching to C-Salts, a formulated powder that provides 4 grams of C per serving, along with calcium, magnesium, potassium and zinc.
