Taurine is a conditionally essential amino acid that is not utilized for protein synthesis, but is mainly found free in most tissues, especially throughout the nervous system. It functions in tissues by stabilizing cell membranes, aiding the transport of potassium, sodium, calcium and magnesium in and out of cells. Taurine helps to generate and regulate nerve impulses and supports the maintenance of normal fluid balance; it is also used by the body in visual pathways, as well as in the brain and nervous system, where it works together with glycine and GABA as a neurotransmitter.

    iHerb Customer Reviews

Taurine is one of my favorites among amino acids. When I am tired, depressed, worried, I take one of those, and after an hour I feel much better. It really makes a difference. I feel stronger during the day and sleep better at night. I recommend it for people with adrenal insufficiency or burnout.

Taurine is one of the essential amino acids. Taurine is commonly found in meat protein and eggs. People who like to eat lots of vegetables and not meat or eggs, may be missing some taurine. Therefore for a vegetarian, taurine could be a very important supplement. I trust NOW brand taurine, which also helps to grow healthy hair.

    Facial flushing, Hashimoto's, food reactions.

I have Hashimoto's, facial flushing, and I react badly to dietary fats. Facial inflammation increases. One of my Professors in the nutrition field suggested I supplement with Tocotrienols and Taurine to help my body deal with lipids and oxidative stress. I have been taking these for over a year now and feel I can safely say, they help somewhat. I have quite a few health issues, and have long been addressing dysfunctional gut flora. Due to my reactions to foods including fermented toods, it was also suggested I supplement with Taurine. I feel it does help. In addition, as it is a modulator of excitatory and inhibitory neurotransmission, it helps reduce my facial flushing. I take these supplements in addition to Jarrows Niacinamide, Dr's Best Vitamin C and a few other things. See other reviews.
