Since ALA is very dangerous to take (when not according to half-life in small doses, e.i. according to the work of dr. Andrew Cutler) if you have any level av mercury toxicity (which everybody has to some degree), wouldn't this product be far more damaging than helpful?

I have not heard that this product has ever been unsafe; the research by People's Chemist author Shane Ellison has shown the benefits of taking ALA (author of Over-the-Counter-Natural Cures). I follow his advice on taking it and have had no problems.

I've been taking this product for a couple of years now with no problems and only positive results, more clean energy etc.

Do a bloodtest and see what your mercury levels are, only then you can be sure. But dangerously high mercurylevels are not common. Only in some diseases where your body does not flush out toxins anymore or badly.
Before you take a supplement always check their side effects and always know in what state your body is by having bloodwork done.
Never take supplements because you think you have some ilness, please make sure to check if you have the illness before taking supplements for it.
Most supplements are safe to take but some can cause nasty side effects if you dont know what is going on in your body.
