What is the form of the "folate" component? Is it folic acid or methylfolate?

Folic acid is the synthetic form of folate used to fortify foods, yet I requires methyl tetrahydrofolate for the conversion to useable form. Without methyl tetrahydrofolate, folic acid can pile up. The body more easily absorbs folic acid than it does food folate.
