Definitely a refined shea butter.

Posted by Leione on Mar 27, 2014 | Verified Purchase

It may be pure and organic, but it's white, grainy and odorless, which means that it's refined and bleached. It doesn't have the texture, composition, properties or smell of pure raw unrefined shea butter. Even though refined shea butter retains some of the moisturizing properties, it's stripped of almost all the nutrients, vitamins and antioxidants that unrefined shea butter is valued for. It may even have been chemically treated during the refining process, which would make it even dangerous. Hexane, which is a known carcinogen and considered a hazardous substance by the EPA, might have been used. Sodium hydroxide and sodium carbonate altering the natural integrity and composition of raw shea butter might have been added. Its grainy texture is the result of it having been exposed to extreme temperatures during the refining process which destroys the naturally occurring essential saturated and unsaturated fatty acids and proteins that are so beneficial in unrefined shea butter. It's no longer hypoallergenic and safe for all skin types, it's no longer rich in the naturally occurring in raw shea butter vitamins A and E, powerful antioxidants, as well as linoleic, linolenic and arachidonic fatty acids, it no longer contains lupeol protecting against premature aging by inhibiting enzymes damaging skin proteins, it's stripped of cinnamic acid absorbing ultraviolet lights and acting as a natural sunscreen, it no longer possesses the nourishing, protective, soothing, healing, anti-inflammatory and regenerative properties of raw shea butter. I'm really disappointed in this product. Won't buy it again.

Skin protection!

Posted by Reviewer2874534 on Apr 25, 2014 | Verified Purchase

I have super sensitive skin and even landed myself in the hospital once for five days after enjoying a luxuriant bath and failing to properly moisturize afterward. Maybe it's the combo of lupus an living in arid Siberia, but Shea Butter is my secret to sanity. EVERY time I shower, I take the time to apply shea butter. I also apply extra to any problem areas. Sometimes it arrives as a silky cream, sometimes it is grainy or super hard. If you receive a grainy or super hard version, just rub some in your hands to warm it up, and then smooth it over your body. Absorbs quickly and does oil stain clothing or bedding If this review has helped you make a more informed choice, please hit "yes" below!

good but..

the texture is grainy and the color of this product is white. Usually , colour white means this product has been purified and grainy texture means it has been warmed up so this product lost in term of quality. that s why this product is not expensive. I wont buy it again cause of that

Not Consistent!

Posted by 5290203419448448006 on Dec 12, 2015 | Verified Purchase

I bought this product only twice so maybe it not a fair judgement. However, unlike the first batch, which was a smooth and fairly solid substance, the Shea butter in the second jar that I bought was very grainy to touch. When I tried applying it instead of becoming smooth it crumbled and remained as unsightly debri-like white flakes on the skin, which I have a hard time removing. As such, it provides very little surface area moisture! I'm very disappointed in the lack of product consistency and will not purchase again.

Nothing like shea butter

Very disappointed, it is white, hard and grainy - not like shea butter should be. Not nice.

Me encanta, no noto la diferencia con respecto a otras marcas

Posted by MLandCOMPANY on Apr 16, 2014 | Verified Purchase

shea butter is great for skin moisture this one is white in color but very concentrated label says its organic which i believe but i think it has been purified or something , any way its a great product and it last a lot as a small piece can moisture the whole face.

If you want a real Shea Butter - DON'T buy this product!

Posted by 5658353694628385423 on Dec 11, 2016 | Verified Purchase

It may be pure and organic, but still refined, lacking the true virtues of a real Shea Butter. It is a shame (and misleading) that this crucial information is not written on it.
