It is whole grain, it is organic, it contains 5g of fiber, and it is delicious!

It is unfortunate that few people have not heard of or tried this cereal. This super grain almost disappeared because the Aztec virgin sacrifice rituals with blood drinking and an amaranth made "host" was thought to be the devil's version of the Catholic church's sacrament. So this grain was ordered wiped out by the Spanish in the process of there missionary zeal. Since unknown to them was the scientific nutritional value of this grain and being a critical part of the dietary health of this civilization it was just one more factor toward its demise. As a cereal it is better flavor than their pure bland oat bran flakes and since it has oat bran in it, I think it is the better choice. This cereal does not have that heavy feeling of many whole grain cereals after you eat it. (Like you are some livestock eating some heavy feed grains.) It is really one of the few cereals that has a great balance of amino acids. The amaranth gives the extra lysine to make these oats a pretty solid protein. I give it a 5 starts as a cereal but I wish for the price(more expensive in stores) it was 16 ounce box since I go through the cereal so quickly.

I like a crunchy cereal ... but this has almost too much of a crunch. It's better when it sits in the milk for a while ... soy milk of course. It packs a GREAT punch of fiber, protein, and some other vitamins. For the health reasons, and it's good taste, I think this is a pretty good cereal. Not the best, but great to keep the diet diversified and get some nutrish amarynth in ...

Health Valley Sprouted Amaranth Flakes is my absolutely favorite cereal. It's mild sweetness is probably due to its 8 grams of sugar per cup; but it also has 6 grams of protein - more than most cereals - which keeps me going until lunch time. The bottom line is that I love its taste and texture. Plus if I'm away from home for awhile, I can (and did) buy it online.

Amaranth is an extremely important grain for vegans, vegetarians, and even omnivores. Along with quinoa, amaranth is one of the few grains with complete protein. It has 18 of the 20 amino acids, and the two it doesn't have are produced in the body. Of course, being a grain and not animal-based, it doesn't have fat or cholesterol, either. So adding amaranth is an excellent source of protein for anybody. When my local store stopped carrying Health Valley's amaranth cereal, they replaced it with a different brand. It was not nearly so tasty as Health Valley's cereal. I live in a small town, and am 2 hours away from the nearest brick-and-mortar store that carries it. iHerb to the rescue!!! I can now buy it at a very reasonable price, and don't have to spend half a day doing it. Try this cereal. Not only is it very healthful, it's also delicious!
