Niacin and HDL

5 people found the following review helpful

Purchased at iHerb

I started using this product after getting my cholesterol checked, even though my overall cholesterol was low my good cholesterol (HDL) was also low. My doctor told me among other things to take Niacin. Upon my next cholesterol check, my HDL came up 5 points. I use Now Foods almost exclusively.

Niacin is said to increase immune cells activity to kill superbug/harmful bacteria and also important for genomic stability and able to induce apoptosis (cell death) in some cancerous cells; however the sustained release version is also reported to induce liver toxicity in some cases..which i think happened to me (aching body, unwell and sharp pain in the somewhat liver areas i would think so) so be careful how it affects yr body. Just one tab (first one) gave me that bad feeling ....this flush free version didnt give me any problem though
