Rewarded Review

This new recipe from Serenity Kids is a bland (but not in a bad way) option for introducing healthy fats and animal protein to babies, or for adults who aren't able to consume whole foods or just want a low sugar healthy snack option that they can take with them while on the go for snacking. It's a bazillion times better than the vast majority of options. That said, the beef tastes like beef, not like fake meat as is the case with most baby foods that contain any chicken or beef. But the flavor of the parsley, cilantro, green beans, and carrot do not come through at all. I'm okay with the carrot taste coming through, because my experience with carrot baby food has been that it generally tastes terrible in comparison to real carrots, and even in the case of Serenity Kids with their generally superior raw materials this holds true. However, I bought this pouch mostly for the advertised parsley and cilantro seasonings, and the presence of green beans was also a draw. I was unable to discern any taste of parsley, cilantro, or green bean. Fair enough about the green beans - they can be very bland, especially if overcooked. But parsley and cilantro are generally not easy flavors to miss, and they add a lot of wonderful flavor when they are fresh and of good quality. My advice to serenity kids would be to put massively larger amounts of parsley and cilantro in here. Barring that change, if you're looking for a simple flavor that packs great nutritional punch I would opt for the Beef Pot Roast recipe over this one. That is also bland in the sense that it doesn't have a bunch of superfluous spices added that obscure the flavor of the main ingredients, and it will be gentle on sensitive tummies. The batches of that pouch vary. Some are truly delicious and others or a bit flat, but generally you can pick out the flavors of the veggies and the flavors blend well together. The bone broth adds an extra layer of flavor without having to put in superfluous spices that overpower the flavor of the main ingredients. The beef pot roast and the turmeric chicken with bone broth are my favorites of all the Serenity Kids meat based pouches. The regular turkey is usually great, and the chicken with parsnips is divine, just be careful because it's very watery compared to the other Serenity Kids pouches (other than carrot basil, which was more closer to the consistency of water than to that of a puree. It barely qualified as a juice, imho). It's got more acidity than most of their pouches, but it's from fresh lemon juice, not the lemon juice concentrate that is one of the culprits in unsafe levels of contaminants in some other baby food brands. It's a treat, but I can't eat it daily due to the acidity.
